English at ISP:

ISP's Middle School English curriculum is writing-intensive, with each grade level working on elements of the author's craft including textual analysis, style and voice.

The Middle School English Department uses Common Core Standards to determine the skills required in each type of writing.

As a curriculum framework, we utilize Lucy Calkins' Writer's Workshop Program, in which the MS English Department receives ongoing training.

Additionally, 8th grade incorporates elements of poetry into its curriculum, 7th grade includes poetry and creative writing, and 6th grade focuses heavily on improving the writing process through the implementation of writer's workshop strategies such as a writer's journal.

Reading supports the writing-intensive curriculum detailed above.
